When I was a kid growing up in North America, IBM and Quaker with Kellogg's, Uncle Ben's and Aunt Jemima were quintessential brands and reverberations of an American or Americentric hegemony. This buttressed by GE, RCA, Coca Cola and other evidently global brands that had a History spanning decades. The involvement of both White and Black people in these enterprises is certainly evident. But, sometimes it is good to have the names of all the creators and designers involved. In any event, this article is about newer brands that joined the coral of Americentric creativity, quality and belief; brands such as App-e as they sell computers and now also phones. They market Television cable network services also with their own unique productions. In my experience, the App-e might have been the first desk top computer that we encountered in school. Eventually, the schools were taken over by more ubiquitous IBM machines; the public libraries also. In any event, the experience with App-e at school in the 1980's was enjoyed in Science class. It was an ennobling, enriching experience. App-e still promises an ennobling and enriching emotive experience with good design. But, then many companies offer this good design these days. Maybe there is something we can say about people who will buy a $1100.00 App-e cellular phone once a year to have the newest features and updates. They may tens to have other unique Americentric tendencies. Many are known to support organic foods or they grow their own or just take what they want by accident in Stores as Wood Stock aboriginal types in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation. I have seen three or four generations of these App-e devices and I can't tell the difference. The price says you should be going ape though. It could be a market compensation for the demand people place on these branded devices or it's an experiment to confirm the sort of sometimes unique technology or certainly unique anthropology the phone serves. I am buying an App-e tablet second hand for its build quality and refined presentation. I prefer Android for its ubiquitousness but there is a gravity about the large App-e tablet that is Great for chess or checkers with family. I might say that a Xiaomi phone might really be an App-e. It's possible. They may all be built by an Asian manufacturer or manufacturers with the same $2.00 production cost and then you add unique branded logos and soft ware to each respective device. App-e is built by Samsung and somehow that Omni present air of global Americentric hegemony is lost now; never to be recovered. Nonetheless, in that loss we can see clearly that hegemony is not a home but home is home and home involves safety and people where we have family with whom we share technology every day. Enjoy your App-e and enjoy your home. Home certainly is more important than any false air of hegemony. We have seen the internet adapted for ubiquitousness over the last 30 years as a novel happy, money and time saving new way of approaching life. It is considered essential to daily functioning for all kinds of old Brick and mortar services. We adopted this whole heartedly for is evident benefits but we have not yet adopted the universal unconditional income support with the same immediacy and urgency. Wouldn't automated income availability or ATP ( ability to pay) via the national income support in a Smart device world be a first and obvious aspect of the conveniences promised by App-e and all other Technology providers; with the internet of utility and ubiquity? This way, we know people can afford that $1100.00 phone with no hunter gatherer cause celebre to steal the device. Even if there is a cause, there is no longer any economic justification. It only costs $2.00 to make it. I think Nokia just bought the company anyway. We need to celebrate home vs. elusive hegemony. Money for everyone makes home secure and the people safe. The involvement of both White and Black people in these enterprises is certainly evident. I have worked at IBM and also at a Library that used their machines in addition to government ministries and a few banks. But, sometimes it is good to have the names of all the creators and designers involved in new technology. There is the man who designed the traffic light for instance. His name is Garrett Morgan.

They market Television cable network services also with their own unique productions. Yet, most people who had any typographical needs in the 1970's or 80's would have relied on an IBM Selectric with the Eraser tape. These machines were in many homes. We had one. See the IBM Selectric below.

See that big American hegemonic masculinity in the IBM home computer design below for the IBM Aptiva. You graduated with this one but you are not a Jedi Samurai yet. Everything you see on the machine below is essentially obsolete.
