Some Supermarkets have already adopted the idea. But, the ubiquitous automated cashier is still absent at most Whole Foods although they are now being installed at most retailers and gas stations also. Either you pay with a card or with cash as assisted by the machine at the exit. It is anathema to the retail industry not to have automated cashiers. But, you must have store minders to ensure people do not walk out with goods and fail to pay. The cashier becomes a minder then. We may need just as many minders as we had cashiers and they will know how to manage and maintain the machine when it runs out of receipt paper or when someone sticks a sealed condom in the coin slot. But, why would you need a condom if you are having family? It assists in loss prevention. The machine collects every penny, dollar or pound without issue.
