West Indian culture is a tapestry culture, a quilt of various emotions and genealogies. You see one footed pain mixed with happiness and contentedness. For instance, there is a story once of a busty 18 year old helper who had passed the other 12 stages of domestic preparation and on the 12th stage, she went to work with a new Creole Family with a black black husband. She was black black herself but the wife was fair and read the Bible all day. When the girl came to the door, the woman said come in and have a little sour soup punch mixed with drain cleaner. The girl drank it and five of her front teeth became loose and went down her throat. The woman looked at her as the girl swallowed hard and said, "Good..you are family. You can stay. Come and let me show you where you will be sleeping." She was with that family for 80 years and had 80 children for them. The woman was always reading the Bible to her; especially the part about Hagar being kicked out by Sarai. The girl said she hated the woman for shoving the Bible down her throat. But, why kick Cheery out if she can cook and clean for the Babylonian? We just have to humble her.
