But, where does this fragile, tender, personal reject-ometer tendency come from? Many of her people were fourth generation domestic workers who were told very often by black employees and the whites that they may not be needed or that they may not be coming back to work as they should not feel soo relaxed or accepted, that they are not really allowed to have a family of their own because sometimes they may have to help the old man who owned the home where they were working. Certainly, they cannot have their own man or husband. So, they had to lead two lives if they did have a man. Some were fired if they did have a man while needing to be accepted because the owners don't want the man coming and asking for compensation or cutting tires when his wife who is the domestic worker is pregnant for the boss or maybe for him or both in a doubling up so we all have a son or a daughter.
