This is to confirm that business has been going down at some Marriott Hotels; if they have a 4:00 pm check in. This is affecting travellers. Many have complained, have cancelled reservations and have gone to other hotels and rebooked. There is a US Competition Act inquiry being drafted by the Justice Department to investigate Marriott's ownership of other previously independently owned brand chains such as the Sheraton or the Delta. The Marriott may have leveraged the average empty room and vacancy rate following the suggestion and proposal of a UK Graduate Consultant who attended BPP University in London that observed a way to market the average empty hotel suite and shared his observation with the Sheraton, Marriott and others. The Marriott seized on the marketing opportunity and then bought other hotel brands that did not. Yet, the awkward check in time of 4:00 pm is affecting business, offending customers. The Accor is setting their check in time to 1:00 pm or 12:00 pm on special request with no extra charge. They cannot own more than 50% of the Hotel business in the US and Canada. Any potential infringement of the Competition Act rules may be investigated.
